How to Slice and Dice an Onion

This is a classic French technique to cut an onion into a perfect dice

Step One Cut the Onion in Half.jpg
  1. Cut the onion in half, keeping the root intact

2. Make vertical cuts, sliced just to the root, but not through it

3. If you want slices, skip this step and proceed to holding by the roots, make thin slices. For a dice, holding by the root, being careful of your fingers, make lengthwise, horizontal cuts, adjusting the slices depending on the size of the dice you want

Step 4-Dice .jpg

4. Chop the prepared onion into dices, again holding by the root, being mindful of your fingers, and cut to dices, adjusting the width of the cut depending on the desired dice

5. This leaves you with a perfectly diced onion with evenly sized pieces
