Light Pan-Fried Onion Dip
This classic onion dip will be a hit at your next party or just make a batch to snack on. Serve it with homemade low-carb whole wheat baked tortilla chips or crudites.
This is a lightened up version of Ina Garten’s classic and popular recipe for pan-fried onion dip. It omits the large serving on oil, replacing it with 1-2 tablespoon Smart Balance Light Omega-3 EPA/DHA & ALA Buttery Spread and Smart Balance Light Omega Mayonnaise extra servings of omega-3s and less fat and uses a mix of non-fat greek yogurt and light sour cream instead of full fat sour cream. You are also welcome to simple omit the light sour cream with just Greek Yogurt and a little bit of apple cider vinegar, a prepared in the video.
Ingredients
2 large yellow onions
4 tablespoons Smart Balance Light Omega-3 Buttery Spread (or other Smart Balance Light Spread) or Brummell & Brown yogurt butter
1 tsp kosher salt, plus more to taste as needed
1/2 tsp ground pepper, plus more to taste as needed
4 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup light or reduced fat sour cream*
If Preparing Without Sour Cream*
Substitute with 1 cup nonfat or 2% Greek Yogurt and 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
